According to the latest Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics Report released by SEMI, the total global semiconductor equipment sales in 2023 decreased slightly by 1.3% from a historical high of $107.6 billion in 2022 to $106.3 billion.
As shown in the figure below, by region, the top three semiconductor equipment markets (Chinese Mainland, South Korea and Taiwan, China) will account for 72% of the global equipment market in 2023. Chinese Mainland is still the world's largest semiconductor equipment market, and the pace of investment has accelerated, increasing 29% over the previous year to US $36.6 billion; The second largest equipment market, South Korea, saw a 7% decrease in equipment spending to $19.9 billion due to weak demand and inventory adjustments in the memory market; After four years of continuous growth, Taiwan, China's total equipment sales decreased by 27% to US $19.6 billion.
Thanks to strong investments driven by the CHIPS chip and science bill, the annual semiconductor equipment investment in North America increased by 15%; Europe also saw a slight growth of 3%. Sales in Japan and other parts of the world decreased by 5% and 39% respectively compared to the same period the previous year.
From the perspective of device type classification, the global sales of wafer processing equipment in 2023 increased by 1%, while sales in other front-end fields increased by 10%. Packaging equipment continued the decline trend of 2022, with a decrease of 30% in 2023, while total sales of testing equipment decreased by 17% compared to the previous year.
